Why?
In art I students in high school explored various media, colored pencils, paint, pastels, graphite, charcoal, collage and many others. Now as an upper level art student I feel that they are ready and capable are to develop their own ideas. In essence they are being asked to CHOOSE what media and process that want to make their process out of.
I asked the students to consider their concepts and to consider their skills, everyone has a media they work best in and I have asked these art students to take this into account when they begin the planning process.
Have a few criteria for the project each design must have:
An artist inspiration ( that is still ALIVE!)
Interesting composition
Planning an forethought through notebook work
A size of 12x18 or larger
A grid to enlarge the reference image (to learn the skill)
Question to asks about artist inspirations
Give some background, what they do where they are practicing, current shows ect. Age, where they went to school other important details?
What about there style and medium speaks to you?
Do you resonate with their chosen subject matter, why or why not?
How have they influenced the contemporary art scene?
How have they contributed to the greater dialog of fine arts?
How will your self portrait incorporate their style?
