Contour Line Hands
For a warm-up activity to introduce line the students in my art one class I asked the kids to develop a continuous line drawing. This is a drawing in which a single, unbroken line is used to develop the image. The essential questions that the unit is based around are: How can line communicate a message or tell a story? How can emotions be expressed and interpreted through a line?
Assignment
Students were asked to reflect on the essential questions and describe how they believed a line could be used to express emotion. Students were then introduced to the activity of continuous line drawing. This is essentially a fun warm up to other future line drawings to get students comfortable with mark making. This activity is also how I introduce presenting and photographing their projects.
